Anti-Aging & Nutrition

Free radicals are the extremely reactive by-products of normal metabolism your cells constantly produced. They are a major cause of age-related decline. They can damage the DNA in cells. They can cause cancer as well as abnormal function.   Your diet, lifestyle, and genetic make-up (inheritance) can affect your levels of free radical production.   For example, some people inherit a tendency to produce high levels of homocysteine, an amino acid.  Abnormally high levels of it are equal to smoking and high cholesterol as risk factors for heart disease.

In addition to restoring key hormones to youthful levels, we analyze how susceptible your body is to damage from free radicals.  For instance, after finding a patient's high homocysteine level, we add specific antioxidant supplements to reduce the level so we can greatly reduce the likelihood of a heart attack.  Antioxidants such as vitamins B & C are very effective in your body for neutralizing free radicals before they can harm you.  We assess and replenish vitamin E, coenzyme Q10, alpha-lipoic acid, and other antioxidants too - all of which can help to reduce stiffening of the arteries and improve the condition of your skin.

Medical and nutrition research in recent decades increasingly proves the old “You are what you eat” adage.  We strongly believe that now, there is enough scientific evidence to support treaments following a youth-preserving and disease-fighting diet.  Many studies show a link between diet and key hormones (e.g., insulin) and anti-oxidants (e.g., glutathione). This is why we closely monitor your dietary habits and prescribe changes and supplements that research has proven to optimize body composition and energy levels.
